Access statement

Getting information and making a booking

* You can contact us by phone, email or mail, or visit our website.
* Our website is easily navigable and has clear colour contrasts and uncluttered backgrounds. There are .alt tags on images.
* You can pay your deposit by credit card (MasterCard or Visa), giving us the details over the phone or by letter. Please do not send any credit card information by email. You can also pay by cheque.

Getting here by public transport

* There is a bus stop nearby, which serves the route between Minehead and Tiverton. Buses run 5 or 6 times a day each way, except on Sunday when there is no service.
* The nearest mainline train stations are at Taunton and at Tiverton Parkway, each approximately 20 miles away.
* National Express operate coaches from various destinations to Minehead, Taunton and Tiverton.
* There is an accessible community bus service call SLINKY, which needs to be pre-booked: call 01643 707090 for details.
* There are a number of local taxi companies; we can provide telephone numbers or assist you in booking a taxi.

Arriving by car

* Our car park is behind the house. It has a gravelled surface and there is a slight slope down towards the front door. There are no marked parking bays but there is enough room for up to 7 cars.
* You can park for a short time outside our front door to unload the car.
* We can assist guests with luggage.

Access to the building

* There are 2 shallow steps up to the front door from the pavement.
* The front door is usually unlocked during the day; there is a bell outside and also one in the foyer.
* We give guests a front door key so that they may come and go as they please.
* There are 2 doors; the front door gives onto the foyer and then there is another door from the foyer to the entrance hall.
* Seating is provided in the hallway.
* The foyer and entrance hall are surfaced with quarry tiles; there are also a number of mats and rugs.

Public areas

* There is level access from the hall to the dining room.
* The dining room floor covering is short pile carpet.
* There is a toilet on the ground floor. NB: the doorway is 2 ft / 60cm wide.
* Our guest sitting room is on a mezzanine level and is accessed by 5 steps from the hall. NB: these steps are of slightly varying height but are quite deep at 10 ½ inches / 27cm maximum. There is a handrail.

Bedrooms

* All our bedrooms are upstairs, on the first floor.
* The stairs up to the bedrooms are from the hall: 13 stairs, then a small half landing, then 4 more stairs. There are handrails and banisters.
* All the bedrooms are ensuite. Some have a shower (with a step/edge) some a bath with a shower over. There is also an extra toilet just off the landing.
* Most of the rooms can be either double-or twin-bedded. All double beds are either kingsize or superkingsize.
* We have one family room, which has a double bed and 2 single beds. We can also provide a travel cot and a children’s high chair.
* All guest bedrooms have luggage racks, extra pillows and blankets (more available on request), facilities to make hot drinks, hot water bottles.

General information

* Exmoor House is totally non-smoking.
* Mobile phone reception is very limited. There is a payphone in the hall.

How can we help?

For example, we can:
* Give you our written information (such as menus) in large print, in various colours and fonts, and/or on various different colours of paper
* Read out menus and other information to you
* Provide pen or pencil and paper to aid communication
* Help with filling out the registration form
* Help you with your luggage
* Give you details of local bus times and taxi services
* Provide chairs with/without arms in the dining room; arrange furniture to suit
* Put items that need to be kept cool in our fridge (NB: not 24 hour access)
* Cater for vegetarians and for some special diets (e.g. gluten-free, dairy-free, low-fat), given prior notice.
