At Exmoor House you can...
Escape to Exmoor for a short break from everyday life. Exmoor House dinner, bed and breakfast packages are great value. The atmosphere is relaxed, smoke-free and TV-free. It's also mobile phone-free: most of them don't work up here.
Enjoy our excellent food, home-made using good local produce (accompanied by some nice wine, local beer or Somerset cider from our bar, perhaps...). Non-residents are very welcome to join us for dinner too - booking is essential.
Relax in our comfortable, thoughtfully-designed ensuite bedrooms (with big comfy beds) or in our cosy guest sitting room.
Explore - whether you're planning on walking, cycling, biking or driving, Wheddon Cross makes an ideal base for exploring Exmoor, Somerset and Devon. There are some great walks and bike rides starting from our door.
Celebrate
in style or have a get-together with friends with our house
parties package: book exclusive use of the whole house for a group of up
to 12 people.
Truly a special place to stay...

What makes Exmoor House different?
Although classified as Guest Accommodation / guesthouse, Exmoor House has many
of the features and facilities you would associate with a small hotel. Unlike
some Exmoor hotels though, we do not offer annoying little cartons of UHT milk
or trouser presses. We do offer very comfortable accommodation in chintz-free,
contemporary yet cosy en suite rooms, a relaxed, log-fired, TV-free atmosphere
- and extremely good food that combines great local ingredients
with expert cooking. We have good facilities for walkers, cyclists and bikers.
Our short breaks packages are great value (see tariff
page for details and any current special offers).
The guest house is rated 4* (Silver Award) by VisitEngland. All this and we
work to be as environmentally friendly
as we can - in fact we won a special award from Green Tourism as one of their
best performers.
Where is Exmoor House?
It's in Wheddon Cross, West Somerset - Exmoor's highest village,
in the heart of the National Park - very close to the route of the
Coleridge Way, which links the Quantocks to Exmoor. Dunkery Beacon, Exford,
Porlock, Dunster, Dulverton, Tarr Steps, Winsford, Simonsbath, the Brendon Hills
and several National Trust properties are all within easy reach. Exmoor House
makes a great base, whether you're planning to walk, cycle, or just get away
from it all for a while.
If you are heading further west into Devon or Cornwall, perhaps to the Eden Project, Tate Gallery at St Ives, Damien Hirst's Ilfracombe restaurant or the Rick Stein seafood mecca at Padstow, why not break your journey with a couple of nights on Exmoor? You know it makes sense.
