Exmoor House is
rated 4* Guest Accommodation (Silver
Award) by VisitEngland. The Silver Award means that we achieved
high scores across all the VisitEngland categories (e.g. hospitality, food,
comfort, cleanliness...). We also have the Walkers Welcome
and Cyclists Welcome awards, which means - as you might
expect - that we provide very good facilities and services for cyclists
and walkers - and motorcyclists too, by the way. These include, for example,
a drying room, information about local public transport, maps and books
you can borrow, and somewhere to store your bike.
At Exmoor House we've always made the effort to be as environmentally friendly
as possible, and in 2010 we were the very first Exmoor accommodation to
achieve Gold in the Green Tourism Business Scheme
(GTBS) - see our environmental
statement. Not only that, but in 2008 we won a Green Tourism
Best Performer award - which means that we're one of the top 12
businesses (out of 425) assessed in England that year.

"This Edwardian house has been lovingly
converted into a very comfortable hotel"
- The Guardian, July 2007 (The Guardian named us best hotel on Exmoor in
its 'Great Outdoors' supplement about the National Parks).*
* OK, Exmoor House is Guest Accommodation / Guest House rather than officially a hotel: main differences are that we don't provide room service or 24 hour reception...
"...Frank produces home made meals that would grace - or put to
shame - some of the country's best known restaurants. Freshly cooked, innovative
meals, different every day, he has a passion for cooking that I've rarely
seen"
- from chinese-luck-dragon's review on uktv.co.uk/food
(Exmoor House was nominated for the UKTV Food Local Hero awards in 2007 and
2008).
"...this swish little place punches way above
its weight; for this kind of cash you wouldn't normally expect so much individuality"
- Lonely Planet Devon, Cornwall & Southwest England, 2008
"Grab a local beer from the bar, read up on
the moor in the cosy library, then feast on Exmoor produce..."
- Lonely Planet England, 2009
"...a beautifully characterful Edwardian
property... high quality en-suite rooms decorated in a contemporary yet comfortable
style... the food is of an exceptional quality"
- Country Living Magazine Guide to Rural England The West Country, 2008
Melissa Shales (travel writer, guidebook author and former
Chairman of the British Guild of Travel Writers) recommends Exmoor House for
"walks, wellies, fireside chats and fab food – cosy home comforts
in a glorious setting"
- 101 Holidays, October 2009
"Exceptional evening meals"
- Hilary Bradt, Slow Devon & Exmoor, 2010
"Frank... knows what hungry ramblers need:
a good feed. He makes his own bread and the breakfast showcases local produce,
such as eggs with golden yolks from a neighbouring farm"
- Sarah Batley, Daily Post, July 2011
"...Exmoor House is a complete and utter
escape, a bolt hole from the stresses and hassles of everyday life... it's
a place to enjoy fresh, home-cooked Exmoor produce and, if you're lucky, some
of Frank's very special smoked dishes"
- Simon Dawson, Exmoor Magazine, Autumn 2011
"a fabulous retreat which
we think of as home away from home"
- Julie of The Wedding Genie, October 2011
Read Julie's blog post about Exmoor House at
www.theweddinggenie.co.uk
"...you can book
the whole place for a house party, so not only do you get your own residence
to share with family and friends but also - drum roll please Raymondo - someone
else to do all the cooking and washing up"
- The Times, October 2011
"Nothing was too much trouble: an early
cup of Earl Grey and the offer of cake; advice on walks; a phone call to book
Sunday lunch at a busy pub"
"...the most comfortable bed I have slept in, ever..."
"Exhilarating, extraordinary Exmoor, for less"
-Chris Inge, What's on Somerset, Winter 2011
