At Snowdrop Valley time, the Exmoor House dining room is open during the day as a pop-up tea room (or tearoom if you prefer), normally from 11am - 3pm-ish. The dates for the snowdrop walk are normally February and early March: see our Snowdrop Valley page for the latest information. Why not call in for coffee and cake before going to see the snowdrops? For something a bit different, try a home made teacake. They have much more substance to them than the commercial variety, and we add a touch of sweet spices too.
At lunch time there's always home made soup, and deluxe ploughman's lunches with a good choice of meat and cheese, served with our own pickles and chutneys. Sandwiches are made with our great home-made bread and fillings might include, for example, proper corned beef, home-smoked chicken and various Somerset cheeses, as well as local dry-cured bacon and good quality sausages from our butcher.
As you might expect, our cream teas are something special too. Frank's scones have become famous, and you can choose from the traditional clotted cream and jam with sweet scones, or a savoury cream tea that includes cheddar cheese scones with cream cheese and chutney. We make all the jams and chutneys here.
Naturally there's a good choice of hot and cold drinks. You can also enjoy some wine, local beer or Somerset cider (but please note that if you are not staying at Exmoor House our licence only allows us to serve you alcohol if you are having a full meal).
Contact Rosi and Frank on 01643 841432 for more details and table bookings. For groups of 4 -14 people we may be able to open the dining room specially, outside the normal tearoom hours and dates.
Planning your own special event or celebration? Ask about lunch at Exmoor House. We welcome lunch bookings from non-residents (minimum 4 people in a group, maximum around 12- 14, bookings needed at least 48 hours in advance). You get sole use of the lovely Exmoor House dining room. So if you've got something to celebrate - or you're having a meeting or get-together - just contact us to discuss your requirements. Our dining room was once the village tailor's shop, so it's fitting that we do tailor made lunches. We'll quote you for a sit-down meal, or perhaps our tasting platters, served tapas style, a buffet or a cream tea.
Do you live in West Somerset or North Devon and would like to try somewhere different to eat, that does really good food? Or are you renting a self-catering cottage on Exmoor and want a night off from cooking or a special treat? You are very welcome to join our resident guests here for dinner. However, Exmoor House is not an ordinary restaurant. Because we plan each day's menu around our dinner guests, make everything from scratch and buy fresh, advance bookings are essential (normally at least 24 hours beforehand).
Summer on Exmoor
July, August and September are the season of festivals and fairs, so if you're visiting Exmoor in the next couple of months, why not join in the festivities? Visit our events page for some ideas.
But if it's peace and tranquillity you're after, then Exmoor National Park has that in abundance, too.
